Lee Houseknecht

Florida Chapter Vice-President

When I was in my teens, in the late '40's, I started to hang around a grass strip airport at Batavia, NY.

After a few rides with licensed pilots, I was hooked on flying.

On June 6, 1946, I soloed in a J-3 Cub and have had the flying bug ever since.

On May 24, 1947, I recieved my private pilot at another grass strip at East Pembroke, NY.

I have flown a Piper Cub, Cub Coupe, J-5, Super Cruiser, Family Cruiser,Vagabond,

Clipper, Pacer, Tri-Pacer, Cherokees, Arrow, Lance, Archer III and J-3 on floats.

My wife and I spent many hours in the company Cessna 182 flying around the North eastern U.S.

In August, 2005, I recieved the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award.

After 75 years in business as Housekneccht Motors, with my father and brother,

we sold the business and in 2005, my wife, Jean and I moved to Florida,

where there is better weather for flying and more days to fly.

We are greatly enjoying our life here in the Sunshine State

and our association with the Florida Short Wing Piper Club.
